Neurofeedback

Meet Marcelle, the Neurofeedback Monkey!

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is direct training of brain function.  Through the use of Neurofeedback, the brain learns to function more efficiently.  During sessions,  brain is observed in action from moment to moment through the use of the electroencephalogram, or EEG.  Clients are shown that information and we reward the brain for changing its own activity to more appropriate patterns.  Ultimately, Neurofeedback is training in self-regulation, which is a necessary part of good brain function.

This is a gradual learning process and applies to any aspect of brain function that we can measure.

It can address issues related to

Anxiety-depression spectrum,

Attention deficits,

Behavior disorders,

Various sleep disorders,

Headaches and migraines,

PMS and

Emotional disturbances.

It is also useful for organic brain conditions such as seizures, the autism spectrum, and cerebral palsy.

How long does this take?

Neurofeedback treatment is completed in sessions, much like counseling.  The total number and frequency with which those sessions occurs is relative to the client.

What to expect

The process of completing an evaluation can vary from person to person.  Several factors, such as age, reason for assessment, disability or limitation, and more are considered when determining which assessments will be used.  In most cases, your clinician will set up a meeting to discuss your needs.  This may be on the phone or in person.  The clinician will then determine which assessments will need to be administered in order to reach the end goal of the evaluation.  Some evaluations require completing of self-report survey type forms and other require participation in activities.  The length of the session and number of sessions it takes to complete these assessments will all be determined on a case by case basis.

No matter what, our clinicians ensure you are informed and comfortable with and throughout the process.  Please do not hesitate to ask questions, voice concerns, and be an active participant in the evaluation process
