Emily Fisch, LPC has a Masters in Mental Health Counseling and in School Counseling. Her background includes working with parents, families, and children in a community setting and also within the school system as a School Counselor.
In practice, Emily uses a variety of counseling approaches that can be tailored to each individual. Common modalities include Systems Theory, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. These approaches allow for identifying, then challenging and replacing self-defeating thoughts and feelings. The systems that we operate within, such as our family, school, and workplace have an impact on our internal selves which then affects our external selves.
Emily believes that counseling should create a safe space where individuals and families can vocalize their needs, learn healthy communication skills, and make important connections between their thoughts, feelings, and current reality. Through these realizations a change in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can begin.
When working with younger children Emily takes an educational and integrated approach by using practicing and modeling, acting out/role playing, using self-advocacy, and exploratory play. Motivational interviewing can be used with older children to begin learning about internal motivations and to assist with thoughts and feelings around life changes.
